Michigan police are currently investigating the tragic drowning death of a father of two and Navy veteran, Robert Loren Bacon, who was last seen with his family at a popular vacation spot in Frankenmuth, a Bavarian-inspired town located between Saginaw and Flint.
The Frankenmuth Police Department (FPD) and its dive teams discovered and retrieved Bacon's body from the Cass River near Heritage Park on January 4th.
Bacon's ex-wife, Melissa McLenna, revealed that he was last spotted on December 27th around 7:20 p.m. at the Bavarian Inn Lodge, where a family gathering was taking place.
According to McLenna's Facebook post on December 29th, Bacon had mentioned he was going to his car to retrieve something and intended to return to the pool area to rejoin his family. However, he never made it back, and his cell phone was unreachable.
The FPD was notified of Bacon's disappearance by his family on December 30th.
After an extensive search involving various law enforcement agencies, dive teams, search dogs, and drones, Bacon's body was located in the Cass River. The preliminary cause of death was determined to be drowning, pending a final determination from the Saginaw County Medical Examiner's Office.
Authorities are actively continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Bacon's death.
Expressing her grief on Facebook on January 4th, McLenna thanked everyone who assisted in the search efforts and offered prayers for their family during this difficult time.
