Former first lady Michelle Obama is set to headline a rally in Atlanta on October 29, just a week before the Nov. 5 election. The event, hosted by When We All Vote, a nonpartisan civic engagement group founded by Obama in 2018, aims to engage younger and first-time voters, as well as voters of color.
The rally is expected to boost the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, in the closely contested state of Georgia. Obama, a prominent figure in the Democratic Party, previously endorsed Harris at the national convention in August.
Notable personalities such as Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, Becky G, H.E.R., Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, Janelle Monáe, Bretman Rock, Tom Hanks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Kerry Washington are among the co-chairs of When We All Vote. The group has organized over 500 'Party at the Polls' events nationwide to increase voter registration and turnout.
When We All Vote's executive director, Beth Lynk, emphasized the importance of translating the energy from the rally into actual voter participation. The organization selected Atlanta due to the state's diversity and the significant impact a small number of voters can have in Georgia, where one-third of the electorate is Black, with growing Asian American and Latino communities.
The group's focus in Atlanta includes engaging college students on local campuses. Lynk highlighted the misconception among young voters that their votes lack significance, stressing that every vote matters in a democracy that should be inclusive for all.
The rally is strategically scheduled just before early voting concludes in Georgia on November 1, providing a final push for voter engagement ahead of Election Day.
