During her speech at the Democratic National Convention, Michelle Obama praised Kamala Harris as a highly qualified presidential candidate who has worked her way up from a middle-class background. Obama highlighted the shared belief in the promise of the country between Harris and her late mother, who immigrated from India at the age of 19.

Quoting Harris's mother, Obama emphasized the importance of taking action rather than complaining. She recounted Harris's educational journey, starting at Howard University, a historically black university, and then pursuing a law degree.
