Michelle Keegan has revealed she will "never get used to" fame, as she reflected on overcoming negative comments about her work.
The actress, 35, started her career playing Tina McIntrye in Coronation Street after landing the role back in 2007. Michelle was an instant hit and went on to play Ursula in Plebs, Sergeant Georgie Lane in Our Girl and Erin Croft in Brassic.
The star has won plenty of awards, but admitted she still hasn't adjusted to becoming a household name and doesn't think she ever will.
"Even now, 15 years on, you never get used to being famous. One minute I walked out of the Coronation Street gates and no one knew who I was.
"Then, as soon as my first scenes were on screen, I remember walking out the gates and getting stopped and asked for an autograph. I had no idea how to sign an autograph," she told The Sun.
Michelle said she sometimes struggles with the negative comments she gets on social media and says she has built "a thick skin" over the years.
"The only time it gets to me is when it’s about work because you could have a thousand lovely comments, and then you could have one negative comment, and that one negative stays with you.
"With time you build a thick skin. I don’t know if that’s being in the public eye or just an age thing."
Michelle is currently in Australia where she is shooting BBC drama Ten Pound Poms, created by Bafta-award winner Danny Brocklehurst.
The two have previously worked together on the Sky comedy drama Brassic and BBC drama series Ordinary Lies. Michelle will lead the six-part series alongside Games Of Thrones star Faye Marsay and Luther actor Warren Brown.
The drama will follow a group who have been promised a better quality of life in Australia for only £10, leaving behind post-war Britain.
Michelle will play a young nurse called Kate, who arrives in Australia without her fiancé and will do whatever it takes to "rewrite her devastating past", the BBC said.
Creator Danny said: "Ten Pounds Poms demands an ensemble cast that we are always rooting for – actors we love and want to succeed. I am thrilled to have found those actors.
"It is a delight to welcome so much exciting Australian talent as well as working with the brilliant Faye and Warren for the first time."
