SALT LAKE CITY – Add Michel Pereira to the list UFC fighters who are interested in a potential fight against Michael Page.
“Demolidor,” who returns this Saturday against Stephen Thompson at UFC 291, was asked at Wednesday’s media day if a fight against Page, who’s now a free agent after fighting out his Bellator contract, would catch his eye. Pereira seems up for the potential matchup, and he doesn’t think he’s alone in wanting to welcome Page to the promotion.
“It is a fight to think about,” Pereira told reporters. “I would be very happy to fight against him, if the UFC gives me something if I beat him, like someone in the rankings, a certain spot in the rankings. Plus, that’s also a fight everyone would love to watch.
“I always like to fight guys with the same style that I have, which is to give a show. When I see a guy trying to put on a show more than me, I want to put on an even better show. I think it would be a very fun fight for the public.”
Pereira (28-11 MMA, 6-2 UFC) is on a sneaky five-fight winning streak, and perhaps that’s because he hasn’t fought since May 2022. This bout against Thompson (17-6-1 MMA, 12-6-1 UFC) is a big one for his career, and one that’s personally excited about given the styles.
“I really enjoy Thompson’s style,” Pereira said. “He’s a karate fighter, I’m also a karate fighter, and I always thought we would eventually be able to give a show to everyone in the UFC.”
