Michail Antonio has revealed why he wanted West Ham to sign a striker during the January transfer window but admitted David Moyes has his full confidence despite lack of signings.
West Ham were looking to add a couple of players to their squad during January but despite making three club-record bids the Hammers were unable to get any deals over the line.
Antonio has admitted he wants another striker to challenge him for his starting spot at West Ham but does not blame the club for their transfer window failings.
"No. No, we never, we never got anyone, not a soul," Antonio replied on the Footballer's Football Podcast when asked if West Ham had made any signings.
"But the thing is it is going to be easy to blame the chairman and stuff like that for not signing players because the fans love to do that but in this situation I just feel like the manager did not feel like there were any strikers out there that kind of fits the way he wants to play.
"We put a couple of bids in for a couple of players which did not fulfill at the end of the day but one thing with the manager he knows what he is looking for and once he knows the man that he wants he will go full-hearted after them."
Antonio explained that not only does David Moyes want good players but he looks at the character of his targets and how well they will settle into life at West Ham.
"Right now he has not been able to find that man or those players he feels will fit or gel straight into the team," he added. "Because what you have seen, what he [Moyes] has done so far in the transfer window with Jarrod Bowen, Said [Benrahma], Tomas [Soucek] Vlad [Coufal] the players that have come in have gelled straight into the team and done well so people can moan about his philosophy, people can moan about not getting bodies through the door but when he does get the bodies through the doors he gets quality players through the doors."
Despite his trust in Moyes and the club, Antonio admitted he does want another striker at the club to challenge him for his starting spot.
"People do not understand when I say 'I want someone to cover for me, I want a striker to come in' because I am not just thinking about myself I am thinking about the team and we want the team to finish as high as possible," the Jamaican international said.
"The higher the team finishes the better it is for me and the team so to have that cover and not just the cover I want someone to push me, I don't want someone to be there just for when I cannot play I want someone to push me to make me be better and that is the reason why I want someone in to help me."
