Michael Wacha pitches complete game masterpiece as Red Sox hold off Angels

Michael Wacha has looked every bit like the pitcher the Red Sox were hoping for — and then some — when they signed him to a team-friendly contract back in November.

But this? Not many could have predicted these first two months, and the performance that unfolded Monday night in Anaheim.

Wacha has been terrific in his first two months with Boston, and the right-handed pitcher continued to solidify his revival with his best start in years. The veteran 30-year-old delivered a masterpiece with a complete game, three-hit shutout to lead the Red Sox to a 1-0 win over the Angels.

The complete games are becoming contagious for these Red Sox, who have now thrown three in the last few weeks — first with Nick Pivetta’s on May 18, then Nathan Eovaldi’s on May 28 before Wacha’s on Monday night.

No other major league team has more than one complete game this season.
