MICHAEL STEWART has issued an apology to former Rangers communications chief Jim Traynor.
Over two years ago, the former Hearts captain appeared on BBC's Sportsound show, as he discussed the Ibrox club's head of communications at the time.
Stewart is a regularly contributor to the broadcaster's radio show, as well as their weekly Sportscene TV coverage of Scottish football.
During the show back in February 2020, Stewart referred to Traynor as a "bully" and someone who "creates division for personal gain".
It came during a discussion about an Alfredo Morelos interview, aired earlier in the day by Sky Sports, in which the Colombian striker said he had been subject to racial abuse in Scotland.
Over two years on, Stewart has now apologised to Traynor, who is no longer at Rangers, for the "upset" and "distress" caused to him and his family.
The ex-Hibs midfielder also said sorry to Rangers, as he shared the apology on Twitter this morning.
Stewart's statement reads: "I would like to apologise to Jim Traynor for comments about him on the BBC Sportsound programme on Monday February 2, 2020 and any distress caused to him and his family.
"On the programme, I referred to Jim as a dangerous character, a bully and someone who tries to create division for personal gain.
"I had no justification for those remarks and I withdraw them unreservedly.
"I realise that my remarks and the subsequent social media storm caused Jim and his family a lot of upset which I sincerely regret.
"I am also conscious that my remarks have caused embarrassment to Rangers Football Club and I would like to apologise to them too."
Traynor left Rangers two years ago with David Graham taking over the role as director of communications at Ibrox.
