Michael Stewart has admitted it will take something "extra special" to stop Celtic winning the league this season and that they are "streets ahead" of their rivals.
The former Hearts and Hibernian midfielder praised Ange Postecoglou's side after they thumped St Johnstone 4-1 at McDiarmid Park earlier today. Goals from Kyogo, Aaron Mooy, David Turnbull and an own goal from Andy Considine were enough for Parkhead side to take all three points back down the road to Glasgow. Drey Wright made it 2-1 in the half-time but his sensation long range hit wasn't enough for Callum Davidson's side who sit in eighth place, five adrift of Aberdeen.
It means Celtic restored their nine point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table after Rangers narrowly defeated Ross County at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon. Postecoglou's side have lost once in 25 league games this season. With no midweek games until Hearts visit on March 8, the Celtic boss is looking to wring even more out of his squad.
Speaking on Sportscene, Stewart said: "You say that something special to stop them and that's exactly it. It needs to be something special to stop Celtic on any one day but also when you extrapolate that across a full season, it would have to be something extra special to be able to stop this Celtic side.
"For every other club in the country, that's the benchmark they need to try and attain. At the moment, Celtic are streets ahead of everybody else."
