Michael Smith fans thrilled as they spot 'unusual' way he celebrated darts world title

Michael Smith fans were thrilled as they spotted the "unusual" way he celebrated the PDC World Darts Championship win.

The St Helens born star defeated Michael van Gerwen in a nail-biting final at Alexandra Palace last night. Smith, dubbed "Bully Boy" by fans, brought the title to Merseyside with a 7 - 4 victory over the world number three.

In the build up to the final, the 32-year-old explained his daily routine during the campaign to win the championship involved watching episodes of a classic gameshow. He said: "I’ll wake up tomorrow and just do what I’ve been doing, lay in bed and watch a few Catchphrases.

"It has been good. It’s been on about 9 o’clock every morning, it’s the only thing that’s been on at that time.” Michael left fans in hysterics when he shared a snap on Instagram of his trophy after the win.

Fans took to the comments in stitches as they spotted he had once again tuned into ITV2 as he enjoyed a well-deserved relax after the landmark victory.

However, fans took to the comments to question why he hadn't chosen to watch Catchphrase.

Joe said: "Catchphrase on?"

Ashley posted : "No catchphrase on the box?"

@thedartfulpodger said: "Love the fact you’re watching ITV+1 at about 5 am. Congrats - thoroughly deserved."

@longeatonsingledarts posted: "Enjoying some Catchphrase on TV I guess. What an incredible match. You did it Bully Boy!!!! Massive congratulations and all the best for 2023!!!!"

Liam added: "Catchphrase is gonna be different this morning ."

Other fans took to the comments to praise the champion for his performance in the final.

Remco posted: "Humble GOAT!!"

Gemma added: "This is just the best thing ever. So so pleased for you. Not a dry eye in this house when that last dart went in"

Chris said: "Absolutely delighted for you and your family. One of the most memorable game of darts I’ve ever watched "
