Michael Skubala reveals what mood is like at Leeds United after Jesse Marsch sacking

Leeds United caretaker manager Michael Skubala has insisted the mood around the camp is geared towards earning a positive result at Old Trafford. A whirlwind 24 hours has seen Jesse Marsch lose his job as manager almost a year to the day since his appointment.

The bold decision came after a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest but has disrupted plans for a Premier League double-header against Manchester United. Rookie coach Skubala, formerly coach of the England futsal team, is tasked with steadying the ship at Elland Road.

Paco Gallardo and Chris Armas will also be at hand to assist the under-21 manager until Victor Orta and Co find a new manager. Back-to-back fixtures with the Red Devils plunges Skubala directly into the deep end of professional management.

However, the 40-year-old remained upbeat at his pre-match press conference ahead of a daunting trip to the North West. Skubala said: “Jesse was a good guy and the team were working hard for him. But they are used to change as professional footballers.

“I think the mood is, I wouldn't say down, but the mood is ok. The mood is about ‘we've got to focus on Manchester United, we’ve got to be positive and we've got to go after three points.’

“I don't think anybody thinks it is going to be easy but, as long as we're competitive and we put on a good show, and put a good team on the pitch, that's the most we can ask for. If we can do something, and nick something, that would be great.”
