Michael Sheen on his 'unbelievable' time meeting Wales' World Cup squad

Hollywood star Michael Sheen has spoken of his "unforgettable" team talk with the Wales World Cup football squad.

The 53-year-old was invited to meet captain Gareth Bale and his men after his rousing speech urging the team to victory went viral.

Sheen said his original tribute on Sky show A League of Their Own was seen only in the studio.

But it became a huge hit after it was videoed by a member of the audience and put on social media.

The Welsh actor, who played footie legend Brian Clough in the 2009 hit The Damned United, said: "It went absolutely crazy after League of Their Own. So I was invited to go and meet the Welsh squad and have a few words with them.

"It was amazing for me, unbelievable. It is one thing to prepare a speech for a show, it is quite another to meet the team and look Gareth Bale and [manager] Rob Page in the eye as you are doing it."

He added: "If there is anything which I have said which is going to give them inspiration, a bit of a lift, then that is amazing."

Wales are in the World Cup for the first time since 1958 and face the USA for their opening tie on November 21.

In his call to action, Sheen told the squad: "It is every man, woman and child in this old land standing there with you. One nation, singing with one voice, a song of hope, a song of courage.

"A victory song that floats through the valleys like a red mist, rolls over the mountain tops like crimson thunder."
