Michael Schumacher celebrates 54th birthday as son Mick sends emotional message to dad

Michael Schumacher celebrates his 54th birthday today, nine years after his horror skiing accident.

Schumacher was left with life changing injuries after a horror ski crash back in 2013 just days before his 45th birthday.

And the legendary F1 driver has not been seen in public since the accident.

The German today celebrates his 54th birthday and his son Mick posted an emotional birthday post.

Taking to social media, he said: "Happy birthday to the best Dad ever."

And Mick shared a picture of him with his dad as well as a picture of Michael in a car smiling.

Updates for Schumacher have been few and far between with his family keeping Michael's condition private.

Of the few public updates on his status, most have been given by former Ferrari boss Jean Todt, who recently said he visits Schumacher up to three times a week.

Speaking at a sports festival in Italy last year, Todt gave a rare update on Schumacher’s health, saying his family have had their “life changed” and now “live differently”.

He said: “For me, it is a privilege to be close, in the family with Michael, with [his wife] Corinna, with [his children] Mick and Gina.

“Their life changed on December 29, 2013. They have to live everything differently. The important thing is that there is the closeness of friends. And Keep Fighting, their foundation.

“They are things that are part of life, that they are more important than results and our beloved races. Life, for everyone, is not just racing ".
