Michael Owen tips Man City to win Champions League as they are told to heed Man United warning

Owen tips City for Champions League glory

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen believes either Liverpool or City will win this season's Champions League.

Owen made the admission prior to Liverpool edging past Inter Milan in their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday. City host Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday night.

City ran out 5-0 winners in the first leg of their clash with Sporting, meaning it would take a monumental comeback to stop them from reaching the quarter-finals of the competition. Owen was asked who he believes will win the 2021/22 competition and he claimed City and Liverpool are both in with a great chance of securing the European crown.

City must heed United warning

City's second-half mauling of Manchester United on Sunday was hilarious from a sky blue perspective, with the gulf in class a microcosm of the divergent trajectories the two clubs have taken over the past decade.

Following a tight first half, City were superb after the break, stamping their authority on the game with their brand of controlled and dominant play. In one 15-minute spell, City enjoyed 92% possession. It was a masterclass.

But as good as Pep Guardiola's side were, United were equally as bad. Ralf Rangnick's men could barely get a touch of the ball and when they did there was a distinct lack of quality in their play. City fans may be revelling in their side's quality right now but they've been warned not to rest on their laurels.
