Michael Owen says Leeds United are in 'serious trouble' after Tottenham hammering

Former England striker Michael Owen says Leeds United are in ‘serious trouble’ after another heavy loss today.

Leeds United lost 4-0 at Elland Road against Tottenham Hotspur - their fourth high-scoring loss in a row - and the Whites could be in the relegation zone by the end of the day if results go against them.

Leeds fell behind after just ten minutes thanks to a Matt Doherty goal. Dejan Kulusevski then scored the second before Harry Kane added one, all within the first half an hour. Son Heung-min added another in the second half.

The result prompted former England and Liverpool striker Michael Owen to tweet that the performance made clear that Leeds are well and truly in a relegation battle.

Owen tweeted: “Based on that performance, Leeds are in serious trouble. I can’t see how they’ll pick up any points playing like that. I love Bielsa but his team are all over the place. This relegation battle is wide open.”

The result lifted Spurs closer to a Champions League qualification spot, but left Leeds just three points above the relegation zone at the time of writing, with Brentford, Newcastle United, Burnley and Watford all playing this afternoon.

The defeat ends a woeful month for Marcelo Bielsa ’s side, with the preceding matches being a 6-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield, a 4-2 loss to Manchester United at Elland Road, and a 3-0 loss to fellow relegation battlers Everton at Goodison Park.

Leeds head to Leicester City for their next Premier League match next Saturday.
