Michael Owen's 'cruel' message to Love Island daughter Gemma during family holiday in Portugal

Football hero Michael Owen posted a family photo on Instagram while on holiday in Portugal - but followers branded his message "savage" and "cruel".

His daughter Gemma, who finished second with Luca Bish on Love Island, joined the family on the trip for four days. However, after she and Luca returned to the UK, her dad put a picture on Instagram with wife Louise Owen, daughters Emily and Jessica, and son James. The post was captioned "Family -1 PT".

Gemma commented on the post, saying: "I was there for 4 days and you wait till I leave to get a family picture". Michael replied: "Part timers don’t make the cut." Luca also commented on the message, referring to the "-1" part of Michael's caption, he added: "-2*".

Michael's post attracted more than 25,000 likes, with many fans liking the banter. One said: "Ooofff shots fired", while another added: "Ooh savage".

A third person wrote: "Ouch", and a fourth said to Gemma: "I hope you are okay, what your dad did was just cruel. He could’ve asked you to be in the family photo."

Gemma and Luca finished runners-up on the ITV dating show, behind winners Davide Sanclimenti and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu. Gemma and Luca have since enjoyed their first holiday together, joining Gemma's family and friends in Portugal, reports the Liverpool Echo.

While they were away, Gemma filmed some new content for her swimwear business, OG. And Luca finally got to meet Michael Owen. However, with busy schedules, Gemma and Luca left the holiday early.
