Michael Owen reveals details of 'meet the parents' Love Island appearance and says wife will go

England football star Michael Owen has revealed he's not coming to the Love Island villa for the 'meet the parents' episode of the ITV2 show. Michael is the father of current Islander Gemma, who is happily coupled up with Luca Bish as has been for quite a while.

The lovestruck pair are among favourites to win the show and the £50k prize, but the most nerve wracking moment is yet to come as the remaining couples will need to meet the parents of their partners.

In previous years this episode has given us some classic moments. There was Maura Higgins's mum throwing shade at Curtis Prichard, and Danny Dyer meeting Jack Fincham after he threatened to strangle him.

And ever since we've known of Gemma's lineage footballing royalty, we've hoped Michael would turn up at some point and start kicking balls at the boys but, the dream is over, as Michael told At the Races: "My wife will do that duty. I'll represent the horses and she'll represent the daughter."

The Daily Star reports, Michael said he was confident that his young daughter was doing the right thing, saying: "I know what I'm going to get from my daughter. I've fathered her for 19 years so I'm pretty sure what I'm going to get from her." Some fans have changed their minds on Gemma since her telling Jacques O’Neil what Adam had said about him was the catalyst that saw Jacques quit the villa in an explosive episode.

Gemma said of Adam: "Oh he was proper s****ing you off, he was a little bit s****ing you off" as some of the girls began to chuckle beside her. Jacques then asked: "What did he say?" to Gemma replied: "He said you were immature and stuff" and urged Jacques to sit down though it was too late by then as Jacques fired back: "If he wants to f****** go, we can f****** go".
