Michael Owen was a pundit in the studio for England's match in Germany on Tuesday evening and was quickly mocked for his daughter's appearance in this year's Love Island.
The former Liverpool and Newcastle footballer, 42, appeared on Channel 4 for the Live UEFA Nations League in Germany and was left cringing after talk soon turned to his daughter's appearance in the Spanish villa.
At the beginning of the Nations League fixture, presenter Jules Breach introduced the sports star by saying: "The father of Love Island’s Gemma Owen, Michael Owen here with us, a big night for the Owens last night, Michael, how are you feeling today?"
The former striker was visibly embarrassed as he put his hands over his face and replied: Jules, I came all the way to Germany to try and avoid all that back at home, but you've brought it up straight away."
He went on: "I am feeling alright thank you. This is taking my mind off it so don’t bring it back up."
Fans on Twitter have been constantly mocking the footballer for his daughter's appearance since the show started.
Among the quips was one user who joked about the star's recent appearance on the Masked Singer.
Alongside a pic of Michael on the singing show, they wrote: "Michael Owen sneaking into the #LoveIsland villa disguised as a sweet treat to keep an eye on the Italian after his daughter #TheMaskedBaller."
Another said: "I hope Michael Owen knows he’s sent his daughter to the Love island Villa and not Aston Villa."
Daughter Gemma, 19, started as pre-show favourite for the dating show but her odds quickly tumbled after just two days on air as viewers complained about he attitude.
Tuesday's show showed her already recouple as Italian Stallion Davide Sanclimenti, 27, chose her to partner up with after been given 24 hours to get to know the girls.
On Monday, Davide had received a text which read: "Davide, in 24 hours you will couple up with a girl of your choice, leaving one boy single and vulnerable #italiansnack #ciaobella."
Gemma's head was immediately turned and it was obvious she liked what she saw in the Manchester-based hunk.
She let her original partner Liam Llewellyn know exactly what she thought too in an open conversation before the recoupling.
And she didn't feel guilty about her comments as she confessed he didn't "have a right to be annoyed with the situation" regardless.
