Michael Owen makes 'non-existent' Mohamed Salah point and 'nervous' Joe Gomez Liverpool claim

Michael Owen has taken aim at Mohamed Salah for being 'non-existent' against Everton and revealed why Joe Gomez leaves him feeling 'nervous'.

Salah was a passenger for the opening hour of Liverpool's Merseyside derby draw at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon. However, he did force Jordan Pickford into a fine stop - and hit the post in the final minute of the game.

Despite that, Owen couldn’t help but take aim at the forward for his display. Although he did conclude that Salah’s inactivity could be as a result of a change of approach from Jurgen Klopp.

He said: “He has been pretty non-existent. We did look at that before the game. How wide of a position he is taking up this season. Is that to do with the new centre-forward? Well, he has been missing for the last three games.

“But I still think in his absence, he has still been playing out wide. I wonder if that’s going to be a pattern that’s going to continue for the rest of the season. It certainly continued (against Everton).”

Owen was also critical of Gomez by claiming that he is a player who 'makes me nervous' after the England international again partnered Virgil van Dijk at the back for the Reds.

“Joe Gomez, makes me nervous if I am honest,” the former Liverpool forward told Premier League productions.

”That’s a left foot clearance and he is trying to go with his right foot. Then mis-kicking and basically the ball stopped ten meters away from the goal. It’s not ideal.”
