Michael Owen 'knew' Liverpool were going to win by a 'big score' against Bournemouth

Michael Owen knew it was going to be a "big one" when Liverpool started banging in the goals against Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday afternoon with all of the players "hungry" for goals.

Liverpool went into the lead after three minutes through Luis Diaz and found themselves 5-0 up at half-time, with Mohamed Salah not getting himself on the scoresheet despite being handed a great chance by Harvey Elliott.

Salah once again blazed over the bar from close range in the second half as Liverpool surged to a record-equalling 9-0 win in the Premier League to get their first three points of the new season.

Salah has two Premier League goals to his name in four matches so far this season after scoring against Fulham on the opening day and then in the loss at Old Trafford last Monday night.

"Certain teams when they go a few goals ahead you think they’ll probably ease off now. But when you’ve got someone like Mo Salah who hasn’t got on the scoresheet and didn’t all game, you think ‘you know what, they’re going to keep gong here', said former Liverpool striker Owen.

"Because they’re all hungry for goals and you just knew it was going to be a big score."
