Michael Owen and Paul Merson agree on 'interesting' Spurs vs Leicester Premier League prediction

As the song goes, 'It's the final countdown', and that's exactly what applies to Tottenham's top-four pursuit. At one point, with Arsenal and Manchester United slipping up on numerous occasions, it seemed as though Antonio Conte's said were nailed on favourites to make the cut for Champions League football.

However, their last two results have given the initiative back to the Gunners as Tottenham have drawn and lost Premier League outings against Brighton and Brentford, respectively.

This means that there is now no margin for error as Arsenal travel to east London to play West Ham on the same day Spurs host Leicester City in an earlier kick-off. Therefore, can Conte's side heap the pressure on Mikel Arteta's team going into the second part of Super Sunday?

They are up against a Foxes sides whose full focus is on their UEFA Conference League trip to Rome next week as they look to cause yet another shock and reach their first European final after drawing the first leg 1-1 against Jose Mourinho's Roma side. It's fair to presume that many changes will be made by Brendan Rodgers, which will therefore hand the initiative the way of the north Londoners and football.london rounds up all the pundit predictions ahead of this one.

Michael Owen

"I can’t believe Spurs’ last two results. They looked full of confidence and goals, I don’t know what’s happened. The only positive, is that they haven’t lost too much ground to Arsenal in the race for fourth. Leicester got a point against Villa last week, but it wasn’t a classic. They’ve not been finding the net as much recently. They’ve drawn two in a row, and they probably should have won both.

"A third game in a row without a win would be unthinkable for Spurs. I’m predicting a 3-1 win."

Prediction: 3-1 Spurs win

Paul Merson

"From Leicester's point of view, this is not an interesting game. They have two big matches against Roma with this fixture in between, and I'm sure they'll rest a few players here. Harry Kane's transfer situation remains uncertain at Tottenham. It all depends on whether they can finish in the top four in the next few weeks.

He has a chance of beating Alan Shearer's record, and it can only happen at Tottenham. He can't do it with a team like City, because he won't play against many of the lesser teams in the Premier League.

"This is a good game for Tottenham and I'd expect them to win it. Leicester will have one eye on their European games and I don't see anything but a Tottenham victory here."

Prediction: 3-0 Spurs win

Mark Lawrenson

"Tottenham have dropped points in some unexpected places in the past couple of weeks, losing at home to Brighton and then being held by Brentford. I think this is a good game for them to get their top-four bid back on track, though.

"Leicester played Roma in the Europa Conference League semi-final on Thursday, with the second leg next week, and that competition is their priority now because winning it is the only way they are getting back in Europe next season."

Prediction: 2-0 Spurs win
