Michael Owen admits when Love Island Gemma can be 'horrible' to live with

Michael Owen has shared when his daughter can be "horrible" to be around.

Gemma Owen is one of the contestants on this season of Love Island. The 19-year-old was the subject of controversy on the show at the start of the season when she coupled up with Davide Sanclimenti despite their 8 year age difference.

However, the two have since split and Gemma has developed into one of the most popular figures in the Majorcan villa. Away from the ITV programme, Gemma lives in a £4m Cheshire mansion with her family.

Gemma is a dressage competitor for Team GB and her dad said his daughter shares his competitive streak. The former Liverpool FC player said: "Match day or if it's a big competition, going into that ring, she turns into a horror. It's like that's it - you get your game face on.

"I didn't want anyone talking to me on match day. She's the same, she's horrible. Stay out of her way when a competition's coming round. That's how much it means."

The Owen family home boasts an indoor swimming pool, private gym, bar and cinema room as well as 42 acres of land and stables for 12 horses, which has helped her achieve some of her equestrian dreams, as she competes in international dressage competitions..

The 42-year-old former footballer admitted it was it was difficult to teach his kids the "reality of life" after living such a privileged life. He said: "I had nothing when I was growing up, but when you get a bit of success, a bit of money, your kids grow up with all the big houses, big cars. They fly business class and they think it’s normal.

"How do you show them the reality? You try. I’ve booked economy class seats and been b******ed by my kids, but you still try."
