Michael Mosley shares dessert options that could actually help boost weight loss

Doctor Michael Mosley has offered some advice to slimmers who are struggling cut out a sweet treat or two on their weight loss journey.

The diet expert has helped many people shed pounds with his plans including the Very Fast 800 diet and 5:2 diet, helping people avoid obsessing over everything they eat while losing weight. The doctor insists that weight loss must be manageable in order to be sustainable, meaning he believes leaving room for the odd treat can be important.

And because of this, the expert says that slimmers should not cut out dessert, but instead choose foods that can aid their weight loss journey, reports the Mirror.

Sharing some of his top treats to enjoy "guilt free", Dr Mosley explains that you could actually benefit from a treat now and again as you aim to shed weight.

Often considered a diet no-go, chocolate is something lots of people on a weight loss journey crave.

However, some types of chocolate are stated on The Fast 800 website as an ideal after dinner treat, with dark chocolate actually having a number of health benefits.

The same can be said for some types of alcohol too, with the post reading: "Research shows that resveratrol, a compound present in red wine (as well as in blueberries, cranberries and cocoa) can contribute to the health benefits of the Mediterranean Diet.

“So, if you would like to complement your recipes with the occasional glass of red or piece of dark chocolate, you can. Just be mindful on fasting days as the calories can be significant."

The trick is to stop yourself from over indulging in these treat, consuming them a few times throughout the week as a little reward for sticking to your diet on other days.

If you have a sweet tooth, the diet expert suggest substituting your usual desert from some fruit. Though once again, you should be careful about your choices.

On the website it reads: "Enjoy berries, apples and pears, which have less sugar than sweet, tropical fruits such as mango, pineapple and melon."
