Michael Jordan's touching gesture to family of Shane Warne following state funeral

Michael Jordan made a touching gesture to the family of Shane Warne following the state funeral for the late cricketer in his home nation of Australia earlier this week.

A memorial service for the late bowler - who passed away at the age of 52 earlier this month - was held in Melbourne yesterday, with his family among those in attendance.

The state funeral prompted further tributes to the father-of-three from his children and a number of celebrities, including singers Chris Martin, 45, and Kylie Minogue, 53.

And it's now been revealed that basketball legend Jordan, 59, has reached out to Warne's family recently, with him having made a touching gesture as they mourn the loss of him.

The former NBA star sent the family a bouquet of flowers, which appeared to include roses and orchids - with one of the late cricketer's children posting a photo on Instagram.

Brooke Warne, 24, uploaded the photo yesterday, with the card which arrived with the flowers partially visible in her post, reading: "Deepest sympathies, Michael Jordan."

Expressing gratitude over the thoughtful gesture, she wrote alongside the photo of the bouquet: "Flowers from someone extremely special. thank you Michael Jordan.

It's understood that Jordan and Warne - both considered one of the best players within their respective sports - met during the 1990s when they were both sponsored by Nike.

A throwback photo of the pair - unearthed prior to Warne's passing - showed the two men posing together earlier in their careers, when Jordan played for the Chicago White Soxs.

The recent memorial service for Warne was held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground - known as the MCG - where a stand in honour of the late cricketer was unveiled earlier this week.

Following the service, Brooke said: "Thank you to everyone for the overwhelming support and love we have received. Dad's celebration of life last night was extravagant."

She added: "We are so grateful we were able to send him off at the MCG and unveil the Shane Warne Stand with my brother and sister topped off the night. Thank you everyone."

Brooke was in attendance alongside her brother Jackson Warne, 23, and sister Summer Warne, 20 - who have each paid tribute to their father since his passing earlier this month.
