Louisiana wide receiver Michael Jefferson was involved in a fatal car crash Sunday night, and he suffered injuries that required him to have multiple surgeries, Jefferson’s agent, Jon Perzley, told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The Mobile, Ala., collision involved three cars and killed one man. Jefferson’s injuries and timeline for recovery are unknown at this time.
According to a release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency obtained by NFL Network, Jefferson’s 2019 Chevrolet Impala collided head on with a ’14 Dodge Charger, which was then hit by a ’08 Nissan Maxima. The Charger’s driver, a 55-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was reportedly not wearing a seat belt. The crash is being investigated by the ALEA.
Jefferson finished his 2022 season with 51 catches for 810 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior. He was expected to be a middle-round pick in this month’s NFL draft.
