A Michigan jury has acquitted Michael Jackson-Bolanos of first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of Detroit synagogue president Samantha Woll in 2023. The jury did find Jackson-Bolanos guilty of lying to police but was deadlocked on felony murder and home invasion charges.
According to Jackson-Bolanos' attorney, the jury believed there was no premeditation in the murder but could not reach a decision on whether a felony, which includes home invasion, was involved. The suspect may face retrial on the deadlocked charges, with a pretrial hearing scheduled for next Thursday.
Despite feeling frustrated, Jackson-Bolanos' attorney remains optimistic, stating that the truth will eventually come out and set his client free. The jury deliberated for several days before revealing their deadlock on the charges, prompting the judge to bring in an alternate juror.
During the trial, Jackson-Bolanos testified that he had found Woll's body outside her home after breaking into cars but denied any involvement in her murder. Prosecutors presented evidence of Woll's blood on his jacket, while the defense raised questions about Woll's ex-boyfriend, who initially claimed responsibility for the murder but later recanted, citing medication influence.
Prosecutors emphasized that the evidence against Jackson-Bolanos was substantial, refuting any connections between Woll's ex-boyfriend and the crime. The case has garnered significant attention due to the conflicting testimonies and evidence presented.
As the legal proceedings continue, the community awaits further developments in the case to seek justice for Samantha Woll and closure for her loved ones.
