Michael Douglas says he was mistaken for his daughter's grandfather

Michael Douglas admitted he got mistaken for daughter Carys' grandfather at her recent high school graduation.

He laughed off the awkward moment when he explained what happened during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

The two-time Oscar winner, 76, said: "We had a lovely experience. It was a virtual graduation. We couldn't actually be in the same room that she was in because of Covid protections and all of that.

"It was so wonderful and we're so proud of her, but I've got to tell you, Kelly, it's a little rough when you're going out the doors and the other parents are saying, 'Oh congratulations ... you must be so proud of your granddaughter."

He added there were no hard feelings against the other parents. "I'm not gonna take it personal. They're just trying to be nice."

The actor and his Swansea-born wife Catherine Zeta-Jones are parents to Carys, 18, and son Dylan, 20.

The actress shared a picture of the special day on in Instagram account, saying: "Carys!!! What a proud day as our daughter Carys graduates with honors for her International Baccalaureate! You rock and we love you."

The siblings have lived with the couple during the coronavirus pandemic, but Catherine has spoken about having an "empty nest" when Carys leaves for college and Dylan is back at Brown University.

She said: "It's so bizarre, Michael and I are about to become empty nesters and that term for me is so cold, 'what do you mean, they're not going anywhere, they're going off to school?'" said the Oscar-winning actor.

Catherine also revealed that Dylan and Carys have a love of acting and while they are studying at university at the moment the pair would still like to carry on the Douglas name - a legendary one in Hollywood terms thanks to grandfather Kirk and father, Michael.
