Michael Conlan issues message to fans after brutal final-round knockout

Michael Conlan has told fans he is "all good" and thanked people for their messages after his brutal final-round knockout to Leigh Wood.

There was concern for the 30-year-old who required medical assistance at ringside before being stretchered out of the arena and taken to hospital.

Last night he was said to be "conscious and stable" after being taken to hospital.

In the early hours, Conlan tweeted: "I'm all good folks, cheers for the messages. I'll be back, good shot and congrats to Leigh and his team."

He later added: "Definitely want a rematch lol".

Conlan went on to tweet: "Watched the fight, I definitely need to run it back! Up on the cards & 11th was a slip, fatigue was kicking in & I was caught on the temple with a good shot I didn’t see. Respect @itsLeighWood congrats again, your a tough f***er but let’s run it back."

Conlan was reportedly ahead on all three judges' scorecards when Wood sent the Belfast challenger through the ropes.

Conlan had been in control of the WBA world featherweight title clash, dropping Wood in the first round and dominating and early stages of the fight.

But Wood powered back and dropped his opponent in the 11th round before delivering a brutal stoppage which left Conlan out cold.

The Belfast boxer fell out of the ring and was immediately tended to by paramedics but was later reported to be conscious before being put in an ambulance where he was in a stable condition.

Matchroom CEO Frank Smith said: "Michael Conlan arrived at hospital, conscious and stable."
