A witness in the NY v. Trump case in Manhattan testified that former Trump attorney Michael Cohen expressed interest in a job within the 45th president’s administration, contradicting his previous denial of wanting a White House role during congressional testimony.
Keith Davidson, an attorney representing Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal, continued his testimony before the court, revealing that Cohen had hoped to secure a position as White House chief of staff or attorney general leading up to Trump’s inauguration. Davidson also shared that Cohen was disappointed about not going to Washington after Trump's victory in 2016.
During a conversation with Davidson in December 2016, Cohen expressed frustration, saying, 'Can you believe I’m not going to Washington after everything I’ve done for that guy? I can’t believe I’m not going to Washington… I’ve saved his a--…' Cohen made this statement while shopping in a California store with an 'Alice in Wonderland'-type theme.
The NY v. Trump case centers on Cohen's payment of $130,000 to Stormy Daniels to silence her alleged claims of an extramarital affair with Trump in 2006, which Trump denies. In the December call, Cohen also mentioned to Davidson that he had not been reimbursed for the payment to Daniels.
Prosecutors allege that the Trump Organization reimbursed Cohen and falsely categorized the payments as legal expenses. They are aiming to demonstrate that Trump manipulated records with the intention of committing or concealing another crime, a felony under New York's 'conspiracy to promote or prevent election' law. Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.
