MIchael Buble couldn't resist cracking a playful joke about Newcastle on Twitter, just as he delighted fans with his first of two shows at the Utilita Arena.
As soon as it was announced that Michael would be playing the arena, hot on the heels of his raucous outdoor show in Chester-le-Street last summer, tickets went flying out, so much so that a second date was swiftly added due to 'exceptional' demand. Fans were told to arrive at the venue and be in their seats for 7.30pm, with Michael having no support act and, after waiting for 45 minutes longer for the man of the hour to arrive on stage, their patience was rewarded when he launched into Feeling Good.
That set the tone for the evening as Michael charmed his crowd with a cheeky glint in his eye and effortless panache, swaggering his way through a set that blended his brilliant covers of classics like L.O.V.E and Cry Me A River with his own prime cuts like Haven't Met You Yet and It's A Beautiful Day.

Michael had the Newcastle punters in the palm of his hand from the outset and his flirtation with the city and its people wasn't restricted to the confines of the arena either, as he also made a quip about Newcastle on Twitter, which gathered plenty of attention.
Hinting that he'd done some exploring around the city and further afield, having arrived on Tyneside a day earlier, Michael posted: "Call me crazy but all of the castles here seem really old."
It didn't take long for his followers, particularly the Newcastle natives amongst them, tro respond, with one commenting: "They were new at one point!," with a second telling the singer: "With patter like that you have a career in stand up if the singing doesn't work out for you."
A third told him to "hit the clubs in Newcastle' with another tweeting: "Beautiful part of the world for some stunning castles around the Newcastle area.....and yes, not much call for the modern castle"
