Michael Beale has urged Rangers fans not to get swept up by the emotion of a defeat to Kilmarnock on the first game of the new season.
His newly reconstructed Ibrox side, which has been fortified by nine new signings huffed and puffed without any creative purpose and was ultimately defeated by a goal from 65th-minute strike from Brad Lyons.
The performance was met with predictable hostility from the travelling fans who saw their side fall three points behind rivals Celtic immediately.
Asked on BBC Sportsound if they had the right to question his team after the loss, he said: "I don't think they have a right in terms of the effort or anything but in terms of the result we expected to come here and get a result today. So the excitement over the summer is going to be tempered a little bit by that result.
"But it's one game, we have to bounce back. We have to show them, excite them and get them behind us. It works two ways and today we were unfortunate in terms of not being able to get the result. Kilmarnock played well on the day and I don't want to take anything away from them.
"Listen, the amount of possession we had, 18 shots, eight corners, with the quality we have I expect us to execute in those moments. And if we don't, I expect us to get a hard-fought away draw rather than coughing up a really poor goal.
"It's food for thought. It's obvious we're not happy with today. Not me, not the staff, not the players and certainly not the fans.
"But it's gone, we have to move forward and move forward quickly. It's a new group and there's a bit of open eyes in terms of the demands if this club and what the league's going to bring for everybody.
"We know everything about the league but there's 37 games to go. So let's not get carried away."
Beale's side now face a Champions League third round qualifier at home to Servette with Ibrox likely to voice their discontent at a further display of such quality. The manager though, has no concerns.
He added: "It's a perfect game for us now to bounce back."
