Michael Beale should GO if Rangers lose to Celtic and the pressure is all on him after Ibrox boasting - Hotline

Sunday's Old Firm Scottish Cup showdown is at the forefront of the minds of most Hotliners this morning and it would seem the heat is on Rangers boss Michael Beale to deliver at Hampden.

Eddie Easson, Ballingry, Fife emailed: "The pressure is all on Beale on Sunday. It hasn’t been helped by the idiotic statements coming out of Ibrox. Serial slaverer Cantwell talking about being honourable and boasting how settled he is. Another defeat and he will feel the pressure from the faithful. Ask Robertson and Wilson. Then we get super coach Banfield talking about revenge. Away back to your mantelpiece with Beale and count your trophies. Shouldn’t take long."

Jamie Thompson, Clydebank, added: "If Rangers lose to Celtic again then I feel Michael Beale needs to go. I'm tired of his same comments game after game.. this team is average and this is Beale's responsibility. He should pay for substandard level of football and tactics."

Chris Lowe, Yoker , said: "I hope Willie Collum doesn’t allow Callum McGregor to referee Sunday's game like he has done in the previous two fixtures It’s bad enough he’s got carte blanche to kick and push Rangers players about without the threat of a caution without his constant sniping in the officials ears. With Column being terrified of Celtic, Rangers are already up against it without the Celtic captain officiating the match."

Iain Ashwood, Inchinnan, thinks Collum's appointment is irrelevant. He said: "Who cares who the referee is? Celtic are still good enough to win on Sunday."

Aberdeen fans from near and far also had their say. Gav Crawford emailed all the way from Hong Kong: "William Mercer having a go at Aberdeen for a 'lap of honour' is ridiculous! It's the norm for our players to applaud the four stands after a game. It's evidently one of many things Barry has encouraged to embolden team spirit that was fragile only weeks before and has doubtless contributed in some small way to an incredible turnaround in our fortunes."

Alan McPherson, Cullen, Moray, added: "As an Aberdeen fan it’s hard for me to not think that the SFA hasn’t got it in for my team. Rangers, Celtic, and Hearts all away.

"Where's the justice in that? Things are obviously rotten in the SFA, other teams apart from the Old Firm also have a case for feeling hard done by."

Hibs fan Neil Renton, Edinburgh emailed: "It's all very well that Hibs won their appeal to have Jimmy Jeggo's red card reduced to a yellow but will we get the two points we would have got for beating St Johnstone? There’s a very big chance that would have happened."

And there was still griping about the split and TV coverage of it. Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: "The split has been very confrontational since its introduction and it has always been at least 90% in favour of Celtic.

"Once again Rangers lose out as Celtic play an Aberdeen team with a great home record three times at home. How many times has this happened in favour of Celtic and how often have Rangers had to play three away games against the same top 6 in a season as a result of a split not fit for purpose. I thought equality and integrity was at the forefront of the SFPL, how wrong was I?"

Tim Gibbens emailed: "Football fans up and down the country will be eagerly awaiting to see who comes out on top in the race for Europe, the battle to avoid relegation and, of course, the next Edinburgh derby.

"Therefore, it’s a real shame that Sky has chosen to focus on Celtic and Rangers, both of which will be fielding reserve teams so their main men can have an extended summer holiday!"

Finally, Alan Lough, Dunbar, said: "VAR has ruined football. No ifs. No buts. Scrap it and bring back the spontaneity in football where a player scores, and the match carries on. Simple as that really!"
