Michael Beale responds to Rangers 'standards' banner as boss 'understands' pointed cup final message

Rangers fans sent a clear message to Michael Beale and his squad ahead of next weekend's cup final with Celtic.

And that was to end the horror stat that only two trophies have been brought back to Ibrox in the past eleven years amid a decade of dominance from rivals Celtic. The Light Blues were 3-0 winners on the day at Almondvale after two dead balls from James Tavernier sealed the three points. First a penalty from the skipper was sent it before a free-kick was pinpoint and returning Kemar Roofe also struck.

But before the game a section of the Rangers travelling support unveiled a banner that read: "Two trophies in 11 years - uphold the standards that matter." The message was seemingly in response to Beale's show of sportsmanship against Partick Thistle that saw the Jags awarded a free goal in the Scottish Cup amid the Englishman touting 'standards' for his decision.

When asked about the banner, he told BBC Sportsound: "No, not disappointed or surprised. They pay their money to support the club and when I'm gone they will still be here supporting their club.

"I understand their frustration that sometimes - it was a unique situation [Tillman]. I thought the right thing was done and we are through in the cup and we won 3-0 today so we have a lot to be thankful for.

"I get the emotions, I was a fan before I was a coach."
