Michael Beale: QPR receive official Wolves approach for manager as huge decision looms

Molineux awaits? Michael Beale is Wolves’ No1 target to replace Bruno Lage

QPR have received an official approach from Wolves for manager Michael Beale as he weighs up whether to leave the Championship leaders.

Wolves have made Beale their No1 target to replace Bruno Lage, who was sacked earlier this month with his side sitting in the Premier League relegation zone.

A formal approach has now been made by the Molineux club and they would like him in charge for Sunday’s game at home to Leicester.

Having built a strong reputation as a youth coach at Liverpool and then on Steven Gerrard’s staff at both Rangers and Aston Villa, Beale has impressed in his first managerial job at QPR.

He was only appointed at Loftus Road in June but has transformed the club in that time, with a 3-0 win over Cardiff last night sending them top of the Championship after 15 games.

QPR handed Beale a three-year contract when he joined and would be due around £1million in compensation if they lost him now. Beale gave them hope last night by explaining that it would be tough to walk away from QPR.

"Football is about feelings and relationships. We’ve built strong relationships here,” said Beale.

“I took the decision to turn my phone off [before the Cardiff match] because we had this game to concentrate on.

“I haven’t spoken to [QPR director of football] Les Ferdinand or anyone, so as far as I’m aware nothing has changed. The moment Les speaks to me I'll know one way or another and then the club will communicate whatever we communicate.

“If an offer comes in officially, you don’t have to take it. You have to weigh up everything. There are a lot of questions you need to get answers to.

“It’s 100 per cent a dream of mine to manage in the Premier League. That’s not a secret.

“But it has to be the right opportunity, the right moment and the right club. And they would have to give me a really clear understanding of where that club is going.

“When I was with (Glasgow) Rangers I turned down seven or eight chances to be a manager. There are some things I look for.”
