Michael Beale is Rangers King of Comedy and calling card is leaving Celtic fans in stitches – Hotline

It's maybe just as well Michael Beale is doing the director of football duties at Ibrox right now.

As Beale the manager is already under pressure on the back of Rangers getting punished at Pittodrie. Aberdeen inflicted the Gers gaffer’s first defeat outside Celtic and with their Glasgow foes awaiting in the Scottish Cup this weekend, the pressure is on. Eddie Easson Ballingry, said: “If Rangers chairman John Bennett has an ounce of intelligence he would tell Beale to stay away from the microphone. His statements have the Celtic support in stitches. If Beale The Spiel becomes director of football as well a manager he will end up sacking himself.”

Arrin Geddes, Irvine, said: “Beale continues to add pages to his Big Book of Excuses on a weekly basis but two phrases you won’t hear are, ‘we lacked quality’ and, ‘the other team were better’." Gray Barnett emailed: "Dismal display against Aberdeen. It’s not good enough. We are miles behind the noisy neighbours. If Celtic do the business on Sunday there will be a taxi waiting for Mr Beale."

Bill Lockerbie, Northampton said: “I was disappointed not to hear from Todd Cantwell that Aberdeen didn't win on Sunday although Beale's assertion that Liam Scales goal of the season was a 40-yard misskick was a suitable substitute. You just have to laugh.”

Rob McNab, Dunoon, said: “Although there are differences in the style of football under Gerrard, GVB and Beale, we now have years of the same problem. Chief culprits are Morelos and Kent but it is the manager who needs to change it. Beale has two Old Firm matches and the four other remaining league games to prove he can actually make a difference.”

Dr Robert S Pender, via email, said: “Cantwell is a very talented player but to be a success in Scotland will need to build his upper body strength.”

Everything is Dandy with the Dons though. Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: “So much for the Aberdeen fans complaining earlier on in the season they were unhappy about the Celtic players going out on loan to their side. Liam Scales has now cult like status and Beale was being disrespectful to him when saying it was a freak goal.”

Willie Mercer, Dumfries, said: “Fair dues to Aberdeen for winning the game, but for a team that are in third place two points closer to second bottom and the the play off positions than they are to second top.

“To do a lap of honour at the end of the game, tells you everything you need to know about the standard of Scottish football just now. Embarrassing.”

Denis Bruce, Bishopbriggs, said: “Barry Robson has got Aberdeen playing like a band of brothers and ,if he can keep it going in the split, he will be manager at Aberdeen next season. Beale's season now boils down to one game where he becomes either a busted flush or cock o' the walk. If his nerves ain't jangling,I'll be amazed.”

Motherwell pocketed a point at Parkhead at the weekend and Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon, said: “Motherwell keeper Liam Kelly reminded me of Portos keeper Vitor Baia from the UEFA Cup Final with his pathetic time-wasting. You can't really blame them, but the referee must intervene.”

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “It was a poor performance from Celtic and they will have to improve on Sunday. No doubt Rangers fans will be moaning that Aberdeen ‘only try against them ‘but the reality is they were found yet again that they’re average at best and an on form Celtic will blow them away.”

Hibs fumed at another wild VAR call in their draw with Killie. Neil Renton, Edinburgh, said: “Another week, another set of terrible refereeing decisions with the inability for VAR to be used in reviewing Hibs star James Jeggo red card the pick of the bunch. To paraphrase Edwin Starr “VAR! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing.”
