It's been the Hotline for decades but maybe it’s time to make a name change. Welcome to the VARline.
The video assistant ref system was brought in to end controversy surrounding decisions. So much for that idea. The debates are rumbling on and there was another Connor Goldson handball call at Tannadice on Sunday some punters believe required a second look.
Not that anyone has a clue what handball is any more. Anyway, Paul McCormack, Coatbridge, said: “We've been hearing for years that Michael Beale was the tactical genius behind Gerrard’s time at Rangers. This 2-4-4-1 formation he's tried these last couple of games, with two goalkeepers, has caught everybody out, even VAR, let's see if it catches on.”
John Melrose, Edinburgh, said: “Nobody is saying that it should be a penalty when a ball accidentally strikes a defender’s arm when it’s outstretched. The problem is that every single team in the league – especially Celtic – have been punished for it, apart from one team who have continually got away with it. This is what is making fans angry, the stats say it all.”
But Chris Lowe, Yoker, said: “Killie had two shouts for a penalty on Saturday against Celtic. Where’s the media onslaught the endless replays the conspiracy claims, the BBC didn’t even show them on the highlights Why the silence? Does it not fit the always cheated, never defeated Celtic agenda?”
Rab Hunter, Dumfries, said: “Dear Mr Postecoglou, being the supporter of a non-Glasgow team, even if we were to get half a dozen dubious decision in each of our matches against your team for the rest of my life, there are not enough seasons left to balance the books. Do yourself a favour and stop pandering the paranoia to the moronic masses.”
Mick Beale reckons Ange Postecoglou is lucky to have money to spend.
But Arrin Geddes, Irvine, said: “Maybe Mick the Mouth is just unlucky to be at Rangers at a time when an over reliance on soft loans for years has come back to bite them on the backside. The way Celtic run their business must have sparked his jealous outburst.”
Ben Casey emailed: “I seem to remember when Ange joined Celtic he lost Edouard, Ajer and Christie and still won the league. You don’t call that luck, you call that great management. Beale should try it sometime and stop whining.”
Fraser Davison, Glasgow, said: “Beale is looking over the Clyde at a well run club with a great business model in the transfer market and cash in the bank. The only ones who are lucky are Rangers to have a line of sugar daddies willing to bail them out year on year.”
Rangers are still undefeated under Beale and Alan McGaw, Alloa, said: “Well done Rangers 16 points out of 18 since Beale arrived. Fashion Sakala was exceptional in the second half and his goal was spectacular. The team is starting to believe in themselves so now onto Sunday in the cup and hopefully successful signings this month.”
While Andy Logan, Livingston, said: “I’m loving the Rangers fans and their manager banging on about how they nearly won a European trophy, they nearly beat a below par Celtic. I hope they nearly win things for years to come.”
Meanwhile Hibs halted their slide and Neil Renton, Edinburgh, said: “If Hibs had a fully fit Kevin Nisbet for the season they’d be at the opposite end of the table from where they are now. The guys a cut above the rest and arguably one of the best finishers in the league.”
