Michael Beale in unflinching Rangers player warning as he issues 'show me you want to be here' demand

Stern Michael Beale has warned the Rangers dressing room they have to prove they want to be at Ibrox during the friendly against Bayer Leverkusen.

Beale will take charge of his first game since he stepped into the Ibrox hot seat to replace Gio van Bronckhorst when the Bundesliga side arrive in Govan for the friendly clash. The Scottish Premiership is set to restart on December 15 when Rangers face off against Hibs after the league was put on hold for the World Cup, giving Beale some time to assess his squad options behind the scenes at Auchenhowie.

The former QPR boss has admitted that there will be plenty of changes against Xabi Alonso's side, and reckons The Light Blues support should not read too much into the starting line-up he selects. However, he has told the players that they must step up if handed their chance in Govan on Saturday.

Beale told Rangers TV: "Every player this weekend will be given an opportunity. If I am a fan I wouldn't look to closely into that is what the management team will go with when they come against Hibs.

"I have told the players everyone will have an opportunity to show me they want to be part of things. We don't play friendlies.

"It's not going to be flying into tackles but I want it to be focussed, intense and I want the players to show me they want to be here and the role that they can play. So, certainly in the attacking positions where we have a number of players, I'm going to give everyone an opporuntity to stake a claim.

"We'll keep working into Sunday; there is no day off (because) at the moment we don't have time for that. We come back in and we work, and we look forward to Thursday after that. This Saturday is about fine tuning and giving everyone an opportunity to show the management team that they want to be part of the future."
