Michael Beale admits Rangers summer transfer targets have been identified as he reacts to Ross Wilson's exit

Michael Beale says he has lost a 'good ally' in Ross Wilson as the Rangers boss reacts to the sporting director's departure - with their transfer work already taking shape.

The 39-year-old has accepted a similar position with Nottingham Forest after initially joining the Premiership club in 2019. He has broken the club's transfer records with the sales of Calvin Bassey and Nathan Patterson but has had fan protests launched against him in recent weeks following recruitment that has been criticised in recent windows.

Wilson brought former Rangers assistant Beale into the manager's chair last year following the dismissal of Gio van Bronckhorst, and the Londoner insists the former Southampton figure was a big reason why he returned to Glasgow. But Beale believes the club will be able to move on and the base of the summer window work has already been completed, telling Rangers TV: "Firstly it is a disappointing to lose a good person. Ross was hugely positive in day-to-day work and brought a lot of departments together. We have seen good success in the time he has been here and was influential in me coming back.

"I feel I have lost a good ally. In the short-term there is a void but the heads of departments are ready and a lot of the plans going into next season have already been done.

"It is disappointing for Rangers he has moved on. In terms of recruitment and targets, we have been working closely on that and have an extensive team.

"There's meetings already been had and recruitment and pre-season have very much been finalised. Now it's ticking one or two boxes, maybe some players see their future elsewhere, maybe some players we think as well.

"But the main part of recruitment in terms of identifying players has already happened. Now it's about executing those deals."
