Michael Beale admitted he counts himself lucky to be Rangers manager – weeks after using the same word to describe rival Ange Postecoglou caused a stir.
The Englishman says he’s fortune to be in the Ibrox hotseat and doesn’t see it as work. Beale called Postecoglou as a “lucky man” when he spoke of the Aussie’s spending power at champions Celtic and that has seen Postecoglou frequently refer to Beale’s description in his own press conferences.
Now Beale says he is lucky to be in charge of Rangers after succeeding Giovanni van Bronckhorst back in November as he looks to continue his unbeaten run to start in life at Ibrox when they take on Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup on Sunday. The 42-year-old said: “I don’t see what I do as work. If you can do that in life then you are very lucky. A lot of people would love to be in this position and this is never lost on me. When away from the training ground, I spend time in the countryside with my family.
“The job has not surprised me. You need a really good staff and to be all aligned as a club which we are. I’m loving it and enjoy working in the league,” before joking, “The press conferences in a three-match week I could do without!”
On facing the Jags, he said: “We play a lot of teams three or four times a season so it is nice to play a team that is not in our league. They have nothing to lose so we expect a top performance from them.
“It will be an interesting game and they are bringing a large travelling support. We have to focus on ourselves and get a performance in at our home. We are in one cup final and want to progress in the other. We have to perform at our best on Sunday. When you are at this club it is relentless, you have to just keep winning.”
