Micah Richards slams Alan Shearer’s 'ready salted' iconic Newcastle United celebration

Former Manchester City defender and BBC pundit Micah Richards has poked fun at Alan Shearer's iconic celebration calling it ready salted and bland. The Newcastle United legend's celebration is an iconic sight for supporters of a black and white contingent.

The all-time Premier League leading goalscorer notched 260 goals throughout his career with Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle, followed up by wheeling away from goal with his arm aloft. Shearer's celebration is so iconic it has a statue outside St. James' Park recognising his achievements in a Magpies' shirt, but Richards was not having the celebration.

Richards told the Match of the Day: Top 10 podcast: "Before we get to it, your celebration was s***! Alan it was shocking.

"It's the worst celebration in the history of celebrations. How have we put that in the top 10 what is this? Talk me through it.

"If you were a packet of crisps you'd be ready salted. Bland. Shocking. All the goals you scored and that was all you could think of?

"That was a pathetic celebration. What makes it worse, you've put it on Twitter. It's so bad."

Shearer responded: "We've got the wrong person in here to talk about goal celebrations haven't we? It's simple.

"260 times it happened. It's the best Micah! See, you're talking about it! It's a simple one, it works. I cannot believe you've got me at number 10. It's better than good."
