Micah Richards delivers damning Tottenham verdict with £200m transfer message for Daniel Levy

Micah Richards has instructed Tottenham Hotspur chief exectuive Daniel Levy to back Antonio Conte to the tune of £200million amid the club’s horrendous run of form.

The north Londoners have lost five out of their last eight matches in all competitions, with their 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers signalling their third consecutive Premier League reverse.

The club’s chances of lifting any silverware this season under Conte look remote at the current time, while they are also way off the pace in the race for Champions League football - albeit with three games in-hand.

Asked for a verdict on Spurs’ recent run of form, former Manchester City man Richards pulled no punches with his thoughts and signalled the need for some serious investment at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Talking on BBC Radio 5 Live, he said: “Awful, absolutely awful. He [Conte] should have known that when he was offered the job.

“But it’s not Conte’s problem. In the summer, he needs to spend £100million plus, get in some proper players. Maybe £150million, £200million, whatever you can get.”

He continued: “The senior players, [Cristian] Romero and [Davinson] Sanchez, I’m confused. These are good players or were good players. I don’t understand.”

“Every part of the puzzle just seems the wrong way around at this moment in time.”

Whilst Spurs are currently in an extremely difficult period, he has suggested that the blame does not lie with current boss Conte and again reiterated the need to back the former Chelsea boss in the market.

“He needs to win so give him what he wants. He’s won in the past so at least he knows how to work that sort of magic at the top level, why would you not give him what he wants?,” Richards questioned.

“Why get an elite manager if you’re not going to give him the tools to deliver? What’s the point?”

Spurs will certainly hope to get back on track this weekend and end their long wait for a Premier League victory.

It is going to be a tough task though as they take on current title favourites Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
