Mic’d-up video showed what Patrick Mahomes told the Chiefs after hurting his ankle in the Super Bowl

In the two weeks leading up to the Super Bowl, Patrick Mahomes’ ankle was a major talking point. After all, Mahomes had suffered a high-ankle sprain — typically a multi-week injury — in the AFC Championship and played through the pain to get the Chiefs to Arizona.

Come Sunday, he’d have to show his toughness once again.

Late in the first half, Mahomes aggravated that ankle injury after getting tackled on a scramble. He limped to the sidelines in serious pain, and backup quarterback Chad Henne was even getting loose in case Mahomes couldn’t go. Mahomes, though, was never leaving that game.

On Tuesday, NFL Films released mic’d-up footage from that aggravated ankle injury, and it was wild to hear Mahomes go from complete agony to “I’ll be fine” and “I’m good” in a matter of seconds.

Mahomes wasn’t lying either.

In one of the biggest plays of the game, Mahomes picked up a first down on a 26-yard scramble to get the Chiefs into field goal range. That play helped put Kansas City in a position to run out the clock and kick the go-ahead field goal. And again, he burned the Eagles defense on basically one leg.

To hear how he handled the injury on the sidelines made it even more special. Those videos don’t get old.
