As much as New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers going down with injury sunk hopes for the team’s fans, backup quarterback Zach Wilson had to feel dually overwhelmed by the moment.
After the franchise that drafted him second-overall in the 2021 NFL Draft traded for Rodgers in the offseason, it was as sure of a sign as possible that the team had lost faith in Wilson’s ability to lead the team at present.
However, Rodgers being done for the season has put Wilson in the spotlight once more as he takes back his old job in wake of Rodgers’ injury.
After he threw the Jets’ lone passing touchdown in the game to wide receiver Garrett Wilson, the wideout, fellow wide receiver Allen Lazard and other teammates hyped Zach Wilson up on the sideline and offered him some encouragement.

This is as classy as it gets, as the Jets players had to know the stress Zach Wilson was under as he stepped right back into the spotlight to lead the Jets after such a tough offseason.
The Jets will need Zach Wilson to play as well as he can for the team’s playoff hopes to stay alive. At least on Monday night, he did what he need to for the Jets to get a key division win over the Buffalo Bills.
