Miami Dolphins WR Dubose Hospitalized After Helmet-To-Helmet Hit

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Grant DuBose (88) is carted off the field after being injured during the second half of an NFL football game against the Houston Texans, Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024, in Houston.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Grant DuBose was hospitalized following a frightening helmet-to-helmet hit during the game against the Houston Texans on Sunday. The incident occurred in the third quarter when DuBose attempted to make a catch but was struck in the head by safety Calen Bullock, resulting in his head hitting the turf.

After the hit, DuBose displayed movements consistent with a 'fencing response,' which can indicate a traumatic brain injury. Medical personnel quickly attended to him on the field for over 10 minutes, eventually immobilizing him on a spine board and transporting him to a local Houston hospital for evaluation.

Initial tests conducted on DuBose showed positive results, and he reportedly had movement in all extremities. Players from both teams showed concern as DuBose received medical attention, with Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa expressing his distress over the incident.

Tagovailoa, who has dealt with concussions in the past, empathized with DuBose and expressed regret over the play that led to the injury. DuBose, who was making his return to the field after a shoulder injury, was in stable condition following the incident.

The Dolphins organization provided updates on DuBose's condition, emphasizing the importance of thorough evaluation and care in such situations. The NFL community rallied behind DuBose, sending well wishes for his recovery.

This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the physical risks associated with professional football and the importance of player safety. The Dolphins and Texans, along with the league as a whole, will continue to prioritize player well-being and safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
