Miami basketball coach Jim Larrañaga receives two-year contract extension

On the eve of Miami’s opening Atlantic Coast Conference tournament contest, the Hurricanes announced a contract extension for the coach who got them there.

Jim Larrañaga received a two-year extension that will take him through the 2025-26 season, the school announced on Wednesday.

“I am excited to have Jim continue to lead our men’s basketball program,” UM athletic director Dan Radakovich said in a press release. “He is an outstanding ambassador on and off the court for Miami and for the game of college basketball. We look forward to many more seasons of success with Jim at the helm.”

Larrañaga has a 222-139 record in 11 seasons at Miami and a 692-473 record overall. The Hurricanes’ win over Boston College on March 2 was Larrañaga’s 221st victory with UM, making him the winningest coach in program history.

Larrañaga has been named the ACC coach of the year twice and was the 2013 Rupp National Coach of the Year.

Miami has a 22-9 record and earned the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament.

“I’d like to thank President (Juio) Frenk and Vice President/Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich for their belief and trust in me,” Larrañaga said in a press release. “I’m honored and humbled by the University of Miami’s amazing continued support of me, my players and my staff. This extension is truly about all of us associated with the program and what we have accomplished together. I love working at Miami and this city has truly become home for me and my wife, Liz. I’m incredibly excited to continue coaching here at The U and look forward to leading the program to more memorable moments in the future.”
