MI5, MI6 and GCHQ jobs available in Greater Manchester right now

Jobs are in high demand at the moment and if you ever fancied yourself a bit of a career change, now could be the time.

MI5 is currently hiring in Manchester and it could be just the right opportunity for you.

The UK's domestic counter-intelligence and security agency, which also includes MI6 and GCHQ, says it's "responsible for protecting the UK from threats to our National Security".

It also adds that "it's our job to ensure the safety and prosperity of our country, countering threats from terrorism and espionage" and if you apply for a role, "you will contribute to our mission in keeping the country safe."

So what is currently on offer?

The roles are based in the IT, Science & Technical department and can be worked from the central London or Manchester office - with salary depending on location.

Cross Agency Corporate roles for the Mission Enablers department

This role is all about working in the corporate sections across MI5, MI6 and GCHQ working in different teams such as commercial, finance, learning & development, resourcing, and vetting.

The job description reads: "To help us in our mission, we're looking for people with a current Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance to join our new Cross-Agency Services organisation. The opportunities available broadly align to the Civil Service grades AO to Grade 7 and are open on a permanent or secondment basis. Please ensure you hold Developed Vetting at the point of application".

Positions are available in Cheltenham, Central London, Manchester and Buckinghamshire with wages varying depending on the position and location.

Eastern European Language

At GCHQ, MI5 and SIS, knowing a different language can be extremely important.

In this role you will do more than just translation and transcription, you will also need a deep understanding of a country's culture, history, politics and ideology.

The job description states: "It’s incredibly challenging and rewarding work, where you’ll translate unique material and provide intelligence insights.

"Applying your unique skills and opinion will help us to tell the whole story and enable the right operational decisions to help safeguard national security."

The role will include some of following responsibilities:

• Using your language and cultural knowledge to produce summaries and/or transcriptions or translations into English of material assessed as being of intelligence value, some of which might be highly technical or specialist in nature;

• Applying your interest in technology, the internet and online behaviour to achieve real-world results;

• Producing good written English language reports, using various IT tools;

The position is available in London and Manchester with a wage of £32 an hour plus travel costs.

Software Engineering Apprenticeship

Technology is at the core of everything MI5 does and they're in need of people to support and help maintain that technology.

The three-year apprenticeship will give individuals the opportunity to learn and grow their skills in a working environment while providing the opportunity to work with advanced equipment.

Apprentices will also come out of the program with a BSc Honours Degree in Digital and Technology Solutions.

Here's what MI5 are looking for in applicants:

To join the Apprenticeship, starting in Autumn 2022, you’ll have an interest in programming and technology and you’ll have (or are expecting to have by September 2022) 72 UCAS points, along with GCSE grade 4/C or above in English language and maths or equivalent functional skills (Level 2).

The position is available in London and Manchester with a salary of £22,889 to £24,635 depending on the region you're in.
