Mexico’s Foreign Minister Juan Ramon de la Fuente discussed security and migration with new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a phone call, Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum revealed on Wednesday.
Sheinbaum described the phone call as 'very cordial,' noting that it was Rubio’s first conversation with a foreign minister since assuming his new role. The discussion between the two officials centered on immigration and security matters, although specific details were not disclosed.
On the same day, Rubio outlined his priorities for the State Department, emphasizing the need to address mass migration and enhance border security.
'The State Department will no longer engage in activities that support or promote mass migration. Our diplomatic engagements with other nations, particularly in the Western Hemisphere, will focus on safeguarding America’s borders, preventing illegal and disruptive migration, and facilitating the repatriation of undocumented immigrants,' Rubio stated in a released statement.
