Mexico's Interior Secretary announced a new project called 'Mexico Embraces You' aimed at providing support for Mexican citizens who may face deportation from the United States under the new administration. The initiative is designed to assist in the repatriation and reintegration of Mexican nationals back into their home country.
Under the 'Mexico Embraces You' plan, the National Migration Institute will oversee the reception and processing of repatriated individuals, as well as facilitate their transfer to their respective places of origin. Upon arrival, Mexican citizens will receive 2,000 Mexican pesos (approximately $100) to help cover expenses during their journey home.
In addition, the National Population Registry will assist in issuing necessary identity documents to returning citizens. This initiative comes in response to concerns over potential mass deportations following statements made by the incoming US administration.
The Mexican government has been collaborating with international organizations such as the International Organization for Migration, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and UNICEF to develop and implement the plan. President Claudia Sheinbaum has expressed her intention to engage with the new US administration and has urged Mexican citizens residing in the US to remain calm amidst the changing political landscape.
