Mexico Deploys Troops To Northern Border With US

Tension at the U.S.-Mexico border amid migrant surge

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on Tuesday that troops have begun to be deployed to the northern border with the United States as part of an agreement reached with the Trump administration to pause tariffs. This move comes after a phone conversation between Sheinbaum and US President Donald Trump, where a commitment was made to establish working groups between both governments to address security concerns.

The primary objective of these working groups is to create a zone free of drugs and violence along the border. As part of the agreement, the US has also pledged to investigate the entry of illegal weapons from its territory into Mexico.

The deployment of 10,000 National Guard troops is aimed at enhancing border security measures. These troops will be responsible for monitoring customs to prevent the entry of drugs, particularly fentanyl, into Mexico. Additionally, they will bolster security efforts across the entire border area with the US.

This joint effort between Mexico and the US signifies a significant step towards strengthening border security and combating illicit activities that threaten the safety and well-being of both nations. The collaboration between the two governments is expected to yield positive outcomes in curbing drug trafficking and violence along the border.
