Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has issued a warning to residents in the Tulum area as Hurricane Beryl strengthens back into a Category 3 storm. The President urged people to move to higher ground and seek shelter in secure locations to ensure their safety.
López Obrador emphasized the importance of prioritizing life over material possessions, stating, 'Let’s not hesitate. Materials can be recovered. The most important thing is life.' His message comes as the hurricane's trajectory indicates that it will make landfall in Tulum, a popular tourist destination along the coast.
Quintana Roo state, including Tulum, is currently under a red alert of 'maximum danger,' according to Governor Mara Lezama. She emphasized the need for residents to stay indoors and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the impending storm.
In addition to Quintana Roo, neighboring Yucatán state is also on high alert, with many southern and eastern municipalities under a red alert status. Mexico's national civil protection agency has advised residents in these areas to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines to minimize the impact of Hurricane Beryl.
